You might want to remove your phone number from here as a security precaution. Just a thought.

If you have a volt meter, the first suggestion is a great idea, just make sure you disconnect the incoming line and measure the voltage coming from the pole.

If not, here is a small thing you can try, typically there is what is called an 8-position alarm jack located right around the alarm panel (It looks like a phone plug but bigger). Try unplugging it and seeing if that makes a difference. If the problem is still there, the problem is not your alarm system. It is quite possible for ADSL to be live but the actual phone to be dead. Although they are linked by the same phone number I have seen it happen.

If you are somewhat technical you can also try to go back to the protector - AKA DEMARC (Grey box outside the house - if it is a newer house). Take a telephone wall plate and phone with you.

- Take the 2 wires coming from the pole (Typically red and Green or blue and white) - may be different if there are multiple lines. Connect these wires to the red and green terminals on your wall plate.

- Plug a phone in, if it works the problem is with the lines in your house, if not, the problem is outside your home call the Telco. You need to check for dial tone at the D-Mark, usually a small grey box outside your house where the phone line enters your home. If you get tone there, the problem is somewhere in your house phone wiring. Be advised that sometimes there are wiring conflicts between the DSL line and certain alarm systems that may take a well-qualified tech to resolve. make sure you plug into the security jack and test the line most alarm systems have rj31x jacks that stop dial tone on the house side so the alarm can dial without being interupted
