BT speed is a joke?

I got bt broadband about 3 weeks ago, i

was informed today, that i am on

500kbs, this is NOT what i was

promised, A BT engineer set up my

broadband and said " your second phone

line is not suitable for Broadband".

I paid BT to put a second line in my

property, the engineer only put a spur

cable from my box instead of installing

a NEW cable to my house, I was then

informed by a BT engineer who installed

my broadband that this is NOT

satisfactory

I have phoned BT EVERY day for the

last three weeks complaining about this

matter, and have had NO help

whatsoever in this matter.

BT customer services have been NO

help in this matter.

Before i joined BT i was with AOL on a

dial up Service, I wanted to go on

Broadband with BT so i could view

Videos etc, this i cant do.

If this complaint is not sorted out by

10.am Monday 30 July 2007 I am going

to contact Trading Standards about this

matter.

BT Studio 1500 answerphone - beep when a message?

you need to have call diversion it costs £1.75 a month and allows you to divert your calls to a alternative number remember you pay for the diverted part of the call... you let your new phone supplier sort that out. unless your talking about a divert in which case you ring the 100 operator who will help. All you do is contact your preferred supplier then they will give you all the information you need. It is the same as changing any utility supplier

Bt wiring help?

Hello, I have an extension in my house that is unwired and i Would like to have a go at wiring it. There is one cable in, 6 numbered IDC terminals, 2 terminals marked A and B. The wires I would refer to as mostly Blue with white, mostly white with blue, orange white, white orange etc etc. Can anyone help or know where i could get a diagram. Im not asking BT as i cant afford it. The only diagram i can find online is for a`master socket which this isnt. Thanks

Answers:

A and B are usually found on the master socket or NTE and not on extension sockets. You only need to connect 3 wires to the NTE and the same 3 wires in the extension socket. Blue with white=2 Orange with white=3 and White with blue=5.

2 and 5 carry the dial tone and 3 is the bell wire which makes the extension socket ring. You%26#39;re right not to ask BT as a new extension would cost in excess of £100. All I would say is that in this day and age of cordless phones and wireless broadband, you really only need 1 socket in the whole house. have a look for DIY sites, or electrical sites or just type in wiring a phone socket, youll find it somewhere on the internet Have a look at: http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/wpp/wiring... The only thing to remember once you have got info needed to wire up extention point is if you have any problems with your phone line afterwards bt will charge you to sort it out if the extra point is causing the problem you wont get money back if it isnt they will refund the charge but you can bet it wont be bts fault so they will keep the charge

Busy signal?

when I pick up the reciver it has a busy signal instead of a steady buzz . it still dials out with out any problem .whats wrong with my phone or phone line. I keep having phone problem and the phone compny keeps saying it%26#39;s in your line . I have replaced the line three times. I also replaced the wall plugs

Answers:

Simple enough to see if it is indeed the phone company%26#39;s problem or an inside wiring problem in your home.

IF you know where the interface box is (where the phone line comes to your home, there is a box that when opened will have a place for you to actually plug your phone into it and get a dial tone etc. to test your line).

When you find this interface box, plug one of your phones into the box and if you get the SAME thing at this point, it is NOT your phone, wiring etc., it IS a problem with the phone company%26#39;s line.

NOW, if this IS a voicemail notification, surely you%26#39;d know that by now, but maybe not. If you DO have voicemail, you would know it because when you have voicemail through the phone company YOU PAY FOR IT. It%26#39;s not free either, it%26#39;s about $5 extra a month. PLUS, I%26#39;d think you would know how to use it especially if you wanted it enough to subscribe to it!

SO, bottom line, go to that interface box and plug your phone in and see what happens. If it does NOT do it at this point, then yes, you might need to further investigate by having the phone company come out. Whether it is your inside wiring or NOT, the phone company should accomodate you and repair regardless of if it%26#39;s their responsibility or yours.

Caller ID wont work on new phone??

yes i do have caller ID services. i bought new phones, they are V-Tech brand. about every other day, i will get one phone call to come up. other phones in the house work sometimes, but alot more often then the new ones.

i took the phones back and exchanged for new ones, but that hasn%26#39;t solved the problem. i was hoping maybe someone has had a similar problem, or knows what to do...PLEASE HELP!

and thank you in advance for any advice.

make sure you got a new battery in it.that happens once to me.all I needed was a fresh battery and voila.it worked! I felt so silly afterward... It has been so long since I have had a land line, it%26#39;s hard to remember. Look in your phone manual to make sure that there isn%26#39;t a certain setting that has to be done first. If not, get on their website and see if you can find answers. If you still can%26#39;t, the number for customer service will be on the website. Call it. the first problem is that the phone is a v-tech.. should have gone panasonic..

but you mention that the other phones CID work "sometimes" how many devices do you have plugged in? perhaps there is too many phones, etc connected to your line to get a good signal.. or perhaps you have a problem on your line... why not try testing the CID with this "phone" with all the other phones in your home unplugged... if it still dosent work, call the phone company to tell them about your CID problems.. they can check in the switch to make sure everything is programmed properly on there end, and to do a line test...

Caller ID: # not available??

Does anyone know of any kind of devices that can over ride a caller ID so that you can always know who is calling? I was thinking that a spy shop might have something like what I am looking for. Please answer only if you know of any kind of equipment. I have a family member who is receiving all kinds of phone calls at all hours and wanted to find out who is calling. Thanks

Answers:

There is nothing out there that will show who is calling if on the ID it says "not available" That will happen a lot of times if a person is calling from a wireless phone, or if they there phone is thru a different phone carrier (company) than yours.

Contrary to what the others have answered. If you have caller id, it comes with anonymous call rejection, which will tell callers who intentionally have their numbers blocked, that the must hang up...dial *82 then dial the number they are calling. *82 unblocks their name and number so you can see who is calling. It seems your friends needs to do what is called "Call Trace" which is another *code feature where after the person making the harassing call comes. Pick up the phone and dial the designated * code that your phone company uses to do a Call Trace, then it gets registered with the Annoyance Call bureau and then if it keeps happening they can take legal action against this person. Call your phone company to find out what their Trace code is for harassing calls. no it%26#39;s illegal I really sympathize with your situation, having been there myself. Unfortunately, if a person has their number stopped from showing up on caller ID machines, most often termed "Private Caller", then it is their lawful right to not give out their number. It is in the US privacy act laws. Under certain circumstances, such as a criminal investigation or a suspected terrorist plot, can a judge allow for the recovery of the number. Unless you can provide some kind of criminal reasoning to the police or a DA, then there%26#39;s not much you can do. You can set your phone so that if they want to call they have to leave a number or not call. Just call company and ask. dial *77 to activate ACR... this will force people who call you to unblock there number before calling you...

911, and some 800 and 900 numbers use ANI to obtain caller information such as name number and address... but this service is normallay not available to the general public.

Calling cards and phone booths?

I%26#39;m planning on visiting Canada - if i get a calling card can i use is from a public phone booth? or do i have to get a landline?

Answers:

Most calling cards work from telephone booths. That%26#39;s why they were designed in the first place- for people on the go so that they would not have to carry pocket change.

Be aware that there is usually a surcharge for using the card from a payphone. It%26#39;s to reimburse the payphone owner/company for the use of their phone.

Check with your local phone comany. Many of them can send you a card that allows you to make calls and bills you later on your local phone bill. Ask the rates. Otherwise, you%26#39;ll need to buy pre-paid cards, and they can get used up very quickly. you can use it at a phone booth if you are going to use a phone booth, make sure your calling card has a toll free number..

but... if you are going to use a calling card from a phone where you have free local calling (perhaps the hotel allows free local calling) then you can get a calling card with a local access number... cards with local access numbers are usually cheaper then cards with toll free access numbers.. Try this http://www.phonebell.net/ Virtually all prepaid phone cards charge a pay-phone fee. Consider this fee when comparing cards. This fee will be charged for each call you make, so consider buying a smaller denomination to allow you to use the card in one call, thus avoiding any additional fees the carrier might assess when you hang up. definately

most cards allow call from booth

find one here: http://www.masterdial.net You can use it the same way that you use it at home. It just take longer punching in all those numbers. Of couse you need to put the coin in the public phone first so you ca dial out.

Calls i didnt make?

I constantly get calls from people saying I called them and hung up as soon as they pick up. They call me back from caller ID. I never called any of them. They are always different numbers and in my area code. All at diff. times of the day. The calls are not in my outgoing list. ever since I changed my phone number this has been happening. I have cingular. Anyone have the same prob?? what canbe causing this?

Answers:

Apparently, someone is using one of those websites that "spoof" caller ID information. What you CAN do is call AT%26T, tell them what is happening and ask them if they could change your number because this keeps happening to you and it%26#39;s costing you minutes on your phone. If you are really getting lots of calls like this, someone is doing this to you and they obviously have your cellphone number. AT%26T generally charges to change your number but in some cases, they don%26#39;t. I have had mine changed for a different reason, but an important one involving harrassment and they changed my number for no charge. This is the same type of situation and I%26#39;ll bet if you call and explain to them what%26#39;s happening and how it is really affecting you and costing you minutes, they will change your number for no charge. It doesn%26#39;t hurt to ask. If the first person you talk to in customer care at AT%26T doesn%26#39;t help you, hang up and ask the next customer care representative. GOOD LUCK!! Your number has been "spoofed." There is nothing you can do. AT%26T won%26#39;t help you with that.

Can an American retro style phone (like the ones you see in the films) work in the uk?

If it does will it cause damage to your BT line?

Answers:

In the UK we use a different system, even getting an adaptor to fit , it might not ring in, although you can probably phone out. Cost about £6 It will work but you%26#39;ll need a different input for phone socket

Can any number start with 555?

Answers:

If you are talking about a phone number, I believe that number is just used for movies and TV, not for personal phone numbers. Otherwise, they might give out someone%26#39;s personal phone number. yes no fictional prefix for the entertainment industry As far as I know, it%26#39;s a media-only prefix, and there is nowhere in the U.S. that uses it. yes. any number can start w/ anything! For a movie or any kind of entertainment purposes?

Yes.

For a phone number that someone will actually use?

No. If you are talking about phone numbers, then no, not exactly. It is usually used in movies,so that the don%26#39;t give out a nuber and people start calling it for no reason. Also, it is used for information in some areas. Try dialing 555-1212. only numbers over 555 . 5551 for instance . 5552 is another one , as is 5553 . Less often seen but valid none the less is 5554 but the least seldom seen is 5555 - you%26#39;ll be really lucky to see that one . 5556 and 5557 are just common and 5558 - well zzzzzzzzzzzzzz . 5559 on the othe hand is more complex and had the interesting property of being divisible by three . After that 55501 takes us into the five digit area that we all know and love 55502 being a particular favorite of mine . I%26#39;ll be back later - I need to feed my cat . I have seen 1-800 numbers that have 555 in them, but they can%26#39;t start with 555. Movies and TV use them because they are fictitious, so that they don%26#39;t get sued by giving out someone%26#39;s number to millions of people that are watching. Crazy, huh?! As far as I know, there is only one real phone number that start with 555 and that is 555-1212. It%26#39;s use as to look up other phone numbers.

Can anybody tell me the which service is best and cheap for cable ,landline phone & internet in.

I have shifted here few days ago...i saw lot of services provided by AT%26T,Time Warner %26dish network, but it was vey hard for me to make a choice...because i even have to look for budget.if any body knows or have used any of the service than kindly tell...Its not required that all three services be provided by same company

Answers:

Your best bet is calling each service and asking what their promotions are for new service. They all offer promotions for a package deal for all your service you want, it usually is less expensive to package your services as well as convenient with having just 1 bill. But make sure you find out how long you get the Promo pricing for? As a lot of cable companies advertise a great promo price but it only last for 3 or 6 months. I work for a large phone company, but not AT%26T. I adhere to the community guidelines and won%26#39;t solicit. I just come on here to help educate people ;) AT%26T is best in my book. They offer many packages suited to your budget. I have been a customer for years and never had a problem of any kind .

Can anyone advise me of the best deal to cancel my land line and sign up for gps?

Answers:

your question is unclear... GPS stands for Global Position Satellite... perhaps you are referring to GSM, which is a type of cellular service which is used throughout most of the world...

tmobile, virgin, and cingular (now at and t) are the most well known GSM providers in the US.

when looking for cellular service it is important to know what you need. many offer free roaming, but if you do not leave your home calling area much, you can get a plan where you pay for roaming, and get more included minutes...

most carriers pricing plans are pretty much the same from carrier to carrier, but it depends on the features that you need really...

some carriers nights start at 9, some at 7 (some start at 9 normally but for an extra fee will start at 7)

some cell providers do offer GSM, sprint/nextel, and verizon come to mind.. you can find directions from your phone, and sometimes even find friends who are nearby to where you are..

mobile to mobile may be important, so find out what carrier the people that you plan on calling the most use, because calls between the same cellular carrier are normally included with call plans.. (but not always)

if you plan on using the data side of your phone, make sure you get a package that will give you enough data transfer (while some carriers frown on using the phone as a tethered modem, if you plan on using your phone as a tethered modem, you should opt for an unlimited data plan, and make sure the phone you choose can be used as a tethered modem..

Can calls made from a payphone be traced?

And if they can, is there anyway to know WHO is making the calls?

Answers:

not all all payphones/public phones have camera equipped device, though some have camera installed nearby, so it may and it may not... By whom.

And obviously without recognising the voice then you cant know who is making the calls. Unless you work for an intelligence agency. And even they struggle with this one. yes, and yes; if there is a camera nearby with a view of the phone Calls made from ANYWHERE can be traced. If the payphone has a security camera, they can figure out who made the call by synchronizing the time coded on the camera with the time the call was made.

I moved to the U.S. with my European Siemens phone for my house. The line works fine, but can I charge the phone%26#39;s rechargable battery with the U.S. power supply? Thanks.

Answers:

If you look at the writing on your power supply it should tell you whether it expects a fixed input voltage or if it will work across a wider range.

If it says something like:

Input: 100-240V ~ 50/60Hz

then you should be fine. The key thing is the input voltage you are giving it is within the range described.

If it only works with a fixed voltage, you could pick up a multi-way mains adapter at a Radio Shack and then you will need to check the output voltage and the polarity of the power supply for the phone. I would recommend you take the phone in to the store and have the assistant check and set the transformer before you buy.

There may also be physical differences in the European plug and the American socket but you should be able to pick up an adapter for this fairly easily. Common US electrical outlets are 120 volt; your phone is designed for the 240 v European standard. You will need a transformer, which is commonly available at better electronic stores, to convert the outlet%26#39;s 120 V to 240 Volt. You will need one that is able to deliver 240 V at whatever current (amps) your charger requires for things to work.

With the right adapter you are able to charge it.

Can i do anything to stop telemarketers from calling?

The same one calls EVERY SINGLE DAY and everyone in my family has told him to stop calling but he keeps calling. We already did the Do Not Call thing but i dont think it applies anymore. Is there a place where i can report them so they stop calling before i curse them out?

Answers:

Hello hungryhungryhippo:

Yes, how long ago did you register with the National Do Not Call Registry? If your registration was less than 31 days ago then they can still call you. After 31 days they have to stop. You can also tell the telemarketer to put your phone number on their do not call list.

Also you can file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission if the telemarketer has violated the 31 day rule.

You will need to have the name or the phone number of the company that called along with the date of the call and the phone number, which they keep calling. Companies can be fined up to $11,000 per violation.

Your phone number is on the Registry for 5-years. After that you would have to reregister.

These are the only types of businesses that can call you and not violate the Registry:

“banks, federal credit unions, and federal savings and loans.

common carriers—such as long-distance telephone companies and airlines—when they are engaging in common carrier activity.

non-profit organizations—those entities that are not organized to carry on business for their own, or their members’, profit.”

“calls from — or on behalf of — political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors;

You can check zabasearch.com If it is unlisted then no you can%26#39;t. no... Write to them and ask them for it. I think the police have ways of tracing unlisted numbers, but thats only if there%26#39;s some kinda of abuse or prank calls going on. Easy, look under unlisted in tel/pho directory.Glad to help. if you know the name and address of the person your looking for then you can phone directory enquiries. No. It is ex directory, meaning that the telephone subscriber does not wish for their number to be listed. Nope! Not that I know of.

Cordless phones - different brand handsets?

Can I join two different brand handsets? We already have AT%26T (5.8 ghz) base and 3 handsets. We won in a raffle Uniden base + 2 handsets. Can we join the Uniden handsets to our AT%26T base? I know that there%26#39;s a process to register handsets to the base. I don%26#39;t want to open (and break the seals on)the box if it%26#39;s not going to work.

Answers:

It%26#39;s unlikely that different brands of handsets will communicate with off-brand bases. Otherwise we would all be picking up each others conversations throughout the neighbourhood.

Even though the phones may be on the same frequency band (eg: 5.8 ghz) there are still differences that are proprietary to each manufacturer that will prevent the phones from working together.

That doesn%26#39;t mean that you can%26#39;t use both cordless systems on the same line though. You can still have the AT%26T base connected to one phone jack in the house, %26 have the Uniden base connected to another jack. Then each of the cordless systems will operate on the same line for the same reasons that two wired extension phones would. I%26#39;ve never heard of it being done (the instructions and registering would be different on the phones ... even phones from the same company are not always compatible)

... why not just set up the new phones if you need them ... is this a matter of being able to use handset to handset calling. Because I can%26#39;t think of any other benefit of making them work together. Its not going to work...different phone manufacturers use different digital signatures. The two cannot communicate with one another. However, i would point out that uniden is generally the more reliable company when it comes to phone manufacturing. AT%26T pays Vtech to make and distribute their phones. The standard right now is 5.8GHz digital, however they recently came out with the DECT 6.0 which is an encrypted signal, meaning only professional hackers could listen in to your calls (or a hardwired tap) LOL no, you cant use ATT and Uniden together!

Cordless phones what have you heard?

i used to live in a detatched house and was informed one day by my neighbour that ALL our calls were filling up his answer machine tapes. we used to hear quiet click 5-10 seconds after starting call not realising this noise was when his answer machine started recording. we had cordless phone and so did he with answer machine. He only informed us after hearing my then GF being rather rude about him to her mother

.

Also my friend drove round for some months with his home cordless phone in his car until finally it connected to another phone. From that time he often sat outside that house in his car and used his handset to make calls at their expense

I no longer use cordless phones

Answers:

this was only possible with the 1st cordless phones that came out which only used 25 channels (around 40mhz range) and possibly earlier 900 Mhz phones that did not have DSS... this is impossible with 2.4ghz, 5.8ghz, and DECT phones...

while it is impossible for the newer cordless phones to communicate with any base other then the one that they are registered to... there are still times where the lines outside of your home can have a cross on them, where you may hear others on your line, or vise versa...

the 1st cordless phones operated in the same frequency range as baby monitors, so sometimes people would be able to hear phone calls from baby monitors. it is illeagal to listen in to a phone call that you are not part of, or do not have permission of at least one person in the conversation... Get yourself a DECT phone, rather than a rubbish analogue cordless - it%26#39;s encrypted, so this kind of thing can%26#39;t happen. it is a problem as there are only a restricted number of radio frequencies that are available for use by these machines, this used to be more of a problem for the old analogue system and isn%26#39;t so bad for digital systems, in fact I haven%26#39;t heard of it in digital systems. The old analogue system was also easy to listen in to.

Although uncommon it is possible for this to happen more likely if you and your neighbours own the same model of equipment and even more likely if it is a copy from the far east.

You may want to tell your friend that as he is probably aware what he is doing is illegal but under the communication act it is punishable by up to 5 years in jail. lol.. is this question for real?

Cost to call Puerto Rico , without using a phone card and using a house phone with no long-distance

Well I called Puerto Rico while using a 809 because a friend of my gave me the wrong number and then I assumed that it was a United States number, so I called *while using my house* and I couldn%26#39;t reach it, so a machine said press 0 in case of an emergency I did *I called twice* , at the end of 3 rings the machine said "was not able to reach the "person" and call your service provider for any further problems." Basically, I used my house phone calling out of the country, without a long distance plan and no phone card , so how much will I pay if any?

Dial up internet?

thats the one where u cant use the phone while on the internet right?

Answers:

yep. the one that makes the dialing sound and then it goes "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" .. yeah. haha Yes it is. It sucks and its VERY slow. With dial-up you%26#39;ll die before you actually get to CEQnA.com and ask a question! yup unless u get 2 lines at home 1 for dial up and the other 1 for the phone. but get a cheap dsl line instead..pretty much same price n just need 1 line for both things I don%26#39;t know if it works with all land lines but the phone carrier I have you can get internet service on and still use the phone at the same time without adding additional lines. I have dsl and while it%26#39;s not as fast as dsl it%26#39;s faster than straight dial up. It consists of an attachment for wall phones that the phone mounds to or an inline attachment for desktop and somehow they use 2 different frequencies on 1 line to separate incoming calls and internet service. Just check with your local server to see if they provide the service.

Dialing extension?

How do you dial an extension after you are connected to your party?

Answers:

MOST phone systems will advise you "if you know the party%26#39;s extension please enter it now" usually as the first message that you hear..

SOME phone systems will not prompt you to enter an extension number, such as the office that I get my jobs from. in that instance.. normally at the first prompt you can enter the extension number in place of the info that they are asking for (usually asking to enter your phone number etc... )

almost always you can just dial 0 at any time, and ask to be transfered to the extension..

were you supposed to receive v-tech phones? who was supposed to supply them?

as for myself being a phone tech, i have nothing but negative things to say about v-tech phones... they are poorly made, and often cause problems... another brand to steer clear of is uniden...

if you are getting the phone for free, then i would contact whoever was supposed to supply you with the phone.. if you are paying for the phone, i suggest that you contact whoever was supposed to send you the phone, advise them the phone has not arrived.. and cancel your order, and go pick up a panasonic, or other quality phone... Digital phone question.?

Just had digital (cable line) phone hooked up and need to buy a really good quality home phone with answering machine.

Need at least two additional handsets.

Is the clarity better with digital?

Thanks for all answers.

Answers:

i just had mine installed on the 23 of june, and yes, the clarity is much better and sharper. i have a panasonic, 2 handset cordless phone.i live in a basement apartment, and get excellent input and output rsception.and some of the answers are correct, if there is a power failer, u will not be able to call 911, i have had know static, or heard other conversations. With any digital phone service you are taking the chance of picking up a lot of static and a lot of other weird stuff. My digital phone picks up converstaions that other people are having on their phones. When that happens you can%26#39;t hear the person you are talking to and they can%26#39;t hear you. I had gotten so mad that I wanted to cancel my phone service. I had the phones you are talking about, they were orange and black. They are really good phones, just make sure you have a phone with cord in case you have problems. And if you do its not the phones it the phone service. you probably have a wifi router... so i would stay away from 2.4 ghz phones, as there is potential for interference... i would pick up a 5.8 ghz phone, or a DECT phone...

i prefer panasonic phones...

depending on the quality of your phone lines, i think that im most cases going to VoIP is an improvement in sound quality.. alot of the standard weather related problems with static, or hearing others in the background are eliminated.. I%26#39;ve heard both good and bad about dial tone provided by cable companies. Several things you might want to consider... in case of power outage you WILL lose dial tone. Also, alot of the basic call features are not offered on digital service. Most importantly, you need to check 911 calling. Not all companies out there connect directly to 911. Sometimes it%26#39;s worth the few pennies extra to stay with a true telephone company.

Digital Phone Service based off of towers?

I am thinking of switching from a cell phone to having a land line because my cell phone service is terrible here and we have few towers. I keep seeing ads about digital phone service (land lines) and want to know does this service work from the towers like cell phones? If so, no need for me to subscribe to digital land line services, right? How does this work?

Answers:

good choice!!

you have several choices here!

all you need is DSL high-speed Internet!!

you can get broadband with a cable provider, like com-cast, time-Warner,or earthlink etc. they also will install it and you can get support with these provider later on.or, you can get a provider, like vonage (lousy costumer service) ViaTalk, or Packet8.you will have to do your own installation, activate the VoIP phone, and do all the troubleshooting yourself.the choice is yours.I got Packet8.its was very easy to do.5 minutes and your up and running!

but, remember.full service providers are more expensive.then vonage, P8 etc.you can check out the exact price at dslreports.com.tax...fees.E...

State tax.city tax..yes, VoIP is finally creeping up like the landlines!! If it%26#39;s land line service it%26#39;s just that - LAND LINE! :) It does not work thru cell towers. The calls travel thru wires to your house. They work just fine.

Digital vs. analog - doesn%26#39;t matter for general voice communication - you can make and recieve calls without the cell fone problems. :)

~Cindy! :) no a cell phone is different from a house phone, a cell phone has minutes a house phone does not.

Analog. Digital. What’s the Difference?

by Paul Wotel

Analog phone lines. Analog signals. Digital security. Digital PBX. Analog-to-digital adapters. What does it all mean? In the telecom world, understanding analog versus digital isn%26#39;t as simple as comparing one technology to another. It depends on what product—and in some cases, which product feature—you happen to be talking about.

Analog at a glance

As a technology, analog is the process of taking an audio or video signal (in most cases, the human voice) and translating it into electronic pulses. Digital on the other hand is breaking the signal into a binary format where the audio or video data is represented by a series of "1"s and "0"s. Simple enough when it%26#39;s the device—analog or digital phone, fax, modem, or likewise—that does all the converting for you.

Is one technology better than the other? Analog technology has been around for decades. It%26#39;s not that complicated a concept and it%26#39;s fairly inexpensive to use. That%26#39;s why we can buy a $20 telephone or watch a few TV stations with the use of a well-placed antenna. The trouble is, analog signals have size limitations as to how much data they can carry. So with our $20 phones and inexpensive TVs, we only get so much.

Do calling cards show up on phone bills?

Basically-if you use a calling card to call someone does that show up on your phone bill? (both cellphone/homephone)

I have a bit of a situation and I can show any outgoing calls to this person on my phone bill..Is there a way to do that?

Answers:

no!! If you are using a calling card on a cell phone then the number you first call to access the calling card (toll free number) will appear on your cell phone bill but not the destination number where you are calling to.

On a home phone bill, it only list any long distance calls that your house has made. So if you are using a calling card and the number is toll free and not long distance then it won%26#39;t appear in the bill at all. If you have a calling card that you got from your phone service carrier and you make a call from away from home that is long distance or from a payphone,it will show up on your billl! No. These are too different things. International Phone Card Review If you use calling card to make long distance calls, long distance calls will not show up on your bill, only local access number or toll-free number you dial will show up on your bill. I do not think it%26#39;s possible yet because only the calling card access number will register with your phone provider network not the phone number you called because of the phone network protocols which i cannot explain for you to understand.

However, It would be advisable for you to use or subscribe to such online providers like Tel3, Yahoo Voice, Netzero, Skype, etc which gives any subscribers the opportunity to look up all incoming received and outgoing calls made.

Hence, you can print out your list of outgoing calls and use it for the such purpose you have in mind. no

Do cordless home phones still have the possiblity of being "received" by others?

I like to walk around the house with my headset on, on my cordless phone. I%26#39;m concerned about the neighbors being able to "listen". Is there a way to eliminate this possiblity, if it exists?

Any thoughts, friends?

Answers:

Not really, most phones have frequency hopping and other security features that makes it difficult to monitor somebody else%26#39;s cordless phone conversation. A skilled EE could if they wanted to. YES. in fact, i have a good friend that has all kinds of equipment and he can listen to any cordless home phone, and there are alot of people that have this kind of equipment. this guy literally sits on this thing for fun and tries to pick up frequencies,

also, if you have a baby monitor, almost anyone can pick those things up! so carefull what you say in a room like that, or dont use one and just dont be lazy!

i have a rule, i NEVER use a cordless phone, i NEVER use a baby monitor, i dont even like cell phones! When my oldest son was a baby, I could hear my neighbor talking on their phone every morning, through the baby monitor. It was only in the morning and we could only hear one side of the conversation. I don%26#39;t know if it was a cell or cordless phone, why we could only pick it up in the morning, or why we could only hear her side of the conversation. It was strange to say the least. Trust me, I learned the hard way that phone chats via a cordless, can be picked up. I was talking to a friend from work one day, about another co worker, %26 somehow, my evil neighbor picked up what I was saying, not my friend%26#39;s input, because she could only hear me talking %26 my neighbor called the party we were talking about %26 whom my neighbor knew, (just my luck) %26 told her what I said. I was confronted at work about what I had said about this co worker, %26 I repeated it almost word for word. I wasn%26#39;t going to lie, %26 I wanted the co worker to hear exaclty what I said. Apparently, my neighbor picked up my part of the conversation via a police scanner or something electronic, or so she told the co worker we were talking about. She may have picked up my conversation via a baby monitor. I stopped using my cordless while living next to her. Now, I am very careful what I say when using it, even know I have moved south. You have to be careful!! It is possible to pick up any signal that is broadcast. The newer Ghz based phones with multiple channels make it highly unlikely. The baby monitors usually pick up the 900 mhz band phones. (Older) Baby monitors are really bad to send your word across the neighborhood! Watch out with them.

Do i need a telephone line to get broadband?

Answers:

Some of these answers crack me up LOL

You do NOT need a "telephone line" to have broadband. You can have DSL broadband without having use of a "telephone" line it%26#39;s called a DATA LINE. Where you can have DSL broadband through the land line going into your home. People who no longer find a need for having a home phone get them all the time, through their local phone companies. I have worked in the Telecoms industry for many years both cable and land line, I professionally and personally prefer DSL over cable for a few reason, which I won%26#39;t get into. I am just trying to give you a correct answer to your question :) yes Hi,

yes! you need a phone line for connection, even with broadband ya you need a line for broadband but not for cable or t3 or t2 or t1 yes u need a telephone line to get broadband access. Annoyingly yes, i rarely use the phone yet have to pay the bill for it just so i can have boradband as they share the same line, its just about getting extra money out of people. Yes. There are some very cheap deals out there. Assuming you are in the UK, Talk Talk do a good deal: £10.50 a month line rental + £9.99 a month for free broadband and unlimited anytime geographical calls in the UK and abroad.

In fact, I think they may have downgraded this offer to £10.50 a month line rental and £5.89 for unlimited evening and weekend geographical calls in the UK and abroad.

Hope this helps! If your in the U.K. try now.com, they do a wireless service no land-line required. They used to anyhow.

Do i really need dial tone line on my telephone?

I was reading through my phone%26#39;s owners manual and realized there is a feature that allows for %26#39;temporary tone dialing%26#39; if I have pulse service. What is pulse service anyway? I pay about $7 per month for this %26#39;dial tone line%26#39; which is $84 per year. Could I go without it ? if so does this mean i would have pulse service instead? ....note: I don%26#39;t use my phone all that often however I do have DSL internet service

Answers:

the tone and pluse that they are talking about is the "touch tone" or rotary pulse dialing... all phone lines now adays are equiped with touch tone dialing, back when they changed from rotary phones to touch tone phones this used to be an optional feature with additional charges... but it is now included.. many phone services do not accept pulse dialing, such as most of the VoIP carriers.

you can switch from tone to pulse dialing with most phones with a switch on the side...

you do not "need" dial tone... dial tone was created as a way to let you know that your line is working... way back there used to be no dial tone, so it was difficult to tell if there was a fault on your line.. so while the need to have dial tone is not required for phone service to work, it has for a long time now been the way for the phone company to let you know the line ie clear, and you can dial a number... so, with out dialtone now a days... you will not have voice service on your phone line... You%26#39;re gettin 2 things confused! :)

You need a "dial tone line" or you can%26#39;t make or receive fone calls.

The pulse/tone switch is for old fashioned telephone switching systems that understood pulse dialing but not DTMF (tone) dialing.

You%26#39;re just gettin the two things confused. Without the dial tone line, you couldn%26#39;t make or receive fone calls. :)

No, not on the bill. But if they have a phone that has caller ID, it may store the number with date %26 time until it%26#39;s deleted off the phone. I have a phone like that and there%26#39;s probably a hundred numbers on it since I haven%26#39;t been deleting them.

You sound like a stalker. No. Only outgoing calls appear on a phone bill do *67 to block your caller ID yes they do... =[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[ Not on a house phone....if its a cell phone it would show up though. more than likely not unless ur calling long distance then it will show up but if its local it shouldnt show up at all No only outgoing calls,,but beware they may have caller id or *69.

Incoming long distance or local calls on a residential phone does not show up at all. They can only be supoenaed. If it%26#39;s a regular land line only outgoing calls show but, if it%26#39;s a cell phone or VOIP service or something like that, I don%26#39;t know for sure. Oops. I forgot about caller ID. Take smckech1972%26#39;s advice and use *67 if you absolutely must call this person. no not on the bill but it will show up on the caller ID so make sure you tell your friend to delete it on any phone in the house. No, they dont. Only outgoing long distance calls show up on your phone bill. Also, be SURE to dial *67 before dialing your friends number so they cant trace the call/find out who called.

Do Landlines Have The Ability To Block Your Number?

Answers:

Um yes and no. In the olden days when I was a kid younger than you, no, they didn%26#39;t. But... there was no caller ID so no one knew in advance who was calling. Thus, there was no need to block your call before you sent it.

After touch tone was invented (late 60%26#39;s early 70%26#39;s, that%26#39;s 1970%26#39;s, not 1870%26#39;s), the caller ID came out maybe 10 years later - and so the touch tone was used to temporarily block your call from other people%26#39;s caller ID units by dialing, I believe, *67 before you dialed the number you wanted. Each landline provider had their own instructions on how to block a call on a per-call basis (usually that information is within the first few pages of that company%26#39;s phone book - BellSouth, AT%26T, SWB, whatever, there are gobs of places across the USA.).

Yep, on my land line, I just dialed *67 and then dialed out my cell phone - and when my cell phone rang, it said "private".

Hope that helps. You mean block you from calling them? Yes, they do. It%26#39;s called "call block". It works very well! :)

~Cindy! :) only the feature you get thru your phone provider, and that is usually not what you want.the only way you really can intercept the calls you don%26#39;t want like 800 or all telemarketers, etc.you will need a callerID manager.its a gizmo you plug in between the phone and wall jack!

Do you get call from telemarketers and?

on your caller ID it comes up out of area. How do

telemarketers hide behind out of area. How do telemarketers get your phone number?

Answers:

You need to go to www.donotcall.gov that is the government National Do Not Call Registry. Make sure to add this to your Favorite Sites. As you will see when you go there, it takes 31 days for your phone to be put on the list. You can put your cell phones on it as well. Contrary to what someone else said about it doesn%26#39;t work, it does work, but when you get a call from a telemarketer, you need to get all the info you can about the number calling- number, date/time, name of the company. If you talk to a human being, tell them to take you off your list and that you are on the donotcall list. Then go back to the donotcall site and there is a button you can click to file a complaint against that and any other telemarketers that call you. I get people saying all the time it doesn%26#39;t work, and my reply is always the same...if someone commits a crime against you and you don%26#39;t report it, to the police how are they going to know it happened? same principle applies in this case. Something else you need to understand- the donotcall applies to telemarketers, people who want to sell you something. It doesn%26#39;t want apply to non profit groups, like politician, fire and police organizations, fund raising groups ect... I don%26#39;t know who your telephone company is, but most the major ones have a great feature that goes with caller ID called, security screen, which I have on my phone. It is a recorded message that who ever calls you hears..."the person you are calling does not take solicitation calls, if you are a solicitors take this phone number off your list and hang up now! If you are not a solictitor please hang on the line or press 1 for and your call will go through" That is a legal message to stop those annoying sales calls as well. I don%26#39;t get any calls like that anymore. And when I did, I did file a complaint against them. The FCC charges big fines to companies who break the donotcall laws if they know about it.

Hope that helps :) They buy your phone number from different places, such as credit card companies, places you may have gone online to sign up for "free" products, and those little "win a trip for 2" contests that you see in restaurants.

I am on the "do not call list" and they still call randomly. When they do, I politely say "hold on please", set the phone down, and go about whatever I was doing before they annoyed me by calling.

Do you know of any talking Caller ID cordless where the ID is spoken on the handset?

Panasonic makes several cordless (not cellular) phone that have a talking Caller ID in the base station that can be heard across the room, but if the handset is in one of the remote charging stations or being carried, while Caller ID appears on the LCD display, it is not spoken. Does anyone know of a brand and model where the spoken Caller ID sounds on the portable handset?

Answers:

I work for 1 of the large phone companies and to my knowledge their is not a phone on the market where the cordless handset itself has voice announce built into it, as the base unit does. I have a top of the line cordless phone system in my house, and the base is the only one that has voice announce capabilities. It would be nice when you aren%26#39;t in hearing distance of the base unit. Might run that buy our equipment team. No, but my parents do have one of those Panasonic units. I HATE it!! The voice is horrible. And it gives you the last name first. I really wish I could turn it off when I%26#39;m around it. Please, please demo this product before you decide to buy it. I don%26#39;t have either in our private phone or at work. Thank god for small favors - I think it would drive me to drink if I had one more voice to tell me to do something. The Panasonic with the color screen and expandable to 8 hand sets.

It also flashes different colors for certain calls.

The talking CID comes through the handsets as well as the base.

Do you think home phone service (land lines) will become obsolete in the future?

Answers:

i hope not becuase wit land lines u dont need singnal or anything n they help a lot because you can look the numbers up in the phone book. It%26#39;s certainly looking that way for private use.

Our kids see no reason to have a land line in their first apartments unless they can%26#39;t afford high-speed internet, in which case they%26#39;d get a land line for dial-up. Why have a phone you can%26#39;t take wherever you go?

I expect land lines will continue to be a mainstay for business purposes for some time to come, though. No, I don%26#39;t think so. Land lines are very important for businesses and for people who can%26#39;t afford cell phones. No they probably will not become obsolete. It looks that way maybe in the urban areas and some suburbs, but until the cell companies can provide signal to the entire US, then no. And after all, the cell towers themselves are connected to landline trunks. And need their own power. No.

Cell phones simply don%26#39;t work in certain environments, escpecially offices that are deep inside a huge building with thick concrete walls or in basements, or in areas with a lot of electromagnetic interference.

Also, land lines work during a power outage (assuming you have a traditional telephone). This means that the land lines will remain for security reasons. I have traded my cellphone for a mind ray implant. 60% of the time it works every time! Maybe not for business so quick, but for the average public yes obsolete. You can%26#39;t find an outside phone in downtown Grand Rapids Michigan unless you go to a bar or hotel or gas station. Yes, I think so. We haven%26#39;t had a home phone in over 4 years. We use our cell phones. The phones are always with us and we never miss a call. Can%26#39;t see paying extra every month for a land line.

Does a cordless phone battery die faster if you leave your phone on the charger all the time?

Answers:

I%26#39;ve had many cordless phones, but I have never had a battery die, and I leave they on the charger all the time. yes I think so. My last cell phone was like that. I charged it when I first got it without letting it die first. It didn%26#39;t last long at all. I imagine that cordless phones are similar to that. Good luck!

Does any company offer a DSL line without a telephone line first?

Answers:

yes, yahoo and verizon!! has dry lines... You need a land line phone for the modem to connect to. Therefore, the request you made is impossible to accomodate. Yes, but normally you will pay more for just the DSL then the package of phone line/DSL.

AT%26T, Verizon and Covad are just a few that I know for sure DSL signal resides as a separate and distinct frequency from a voice frequency. For assymetric DSL, you must have a voice line in place. They can be put in place at the same time. However, no voice line means no ability to provide assymentric DSL. yes what you seek is called "dry" or "naked" DSL.. it is not available in all areas.. the central office has to support this... but Verizon, or Covad should be able to help you out...

honestly cable modem is MUCH faster then DSL... DSL in my opinion sucks.. (and I am a phone tech, one of the services my company re-sells is DSL) As a technical matter, you can get a DSL line without having regular phone service. A regular phone line in your home is called POTS - plain old telephone service - which traditionally meant a line with a dialtone. You want a "non-POTS DSL line" - i.e., a phone line w/o a dialtone. The person who says you need a phone line to get ADSL is wrong. I%26#39;ve had non-POTS ADSL for %26gt;6 years. ADSL is just one "flavor" of DSL and it is not dependent on a dialtone.

Now that you know this is possible, you have to determine if it is available where you live. For commercial and regulatory reasons, this varies from market to market.

A thread in our VoIP forum has been drawing comments from some of the dismissed employees throughout the weekend, and they say the remainder of the company%26#39;s employees were let go this morning.

Does anybody who receives a bt phone bill for line rental and broadband package really make sense of

Na not really they think that when they write it in gibberish we won%26#39;t realise what rip off merchants they are we do realise tho just can%26#39;t get out of the contract Wish I had seen this question before I decided to join up to bt last week. Doh! they always charge u 3 months in advance

just to confuse u Yes. It`s self explanatory really :-) Actually NO, but I usually do a quick assessment of what my 3 months rental and other bits %26 pieces total and if its around £100 I pay it otherwise I start looking into it in more detail , But I agree with you it should be simplified. Try switching to Talk Talk. Their bills are very easy to understand - £10.50 line rental and £9.99 for the Talk 3 International package, which includes unlimited calls at any time to geographical numbers in the UK and abroad. Also, broadband is thrown in!! I took a while of speaking to their call centre agents in India before I could finally get connected, but now I am, I have no regrets. Took sometime to work it out,but I have Option 2 and direct debit together with paperless billing. If you use this system, you can view your accou.nt on line which will give you a complete breakdown of every call and relevant charges. yes bt charge your broadband and line rentel seperatly the line rental is for the up keep of your line.

They call like twice a day and it%26#39;s really annoying.

Its a computer automated system. What happens is the computer dials two or three or more numbers at the same time. The first number that answers gets a voice. The rest either get a recording or nothing at all Its a computer calling from a sales call centre. Yeah, I get those too- It really does bug!

They%26#39;ve got something called voice-link where an automated system dials a number and if it gets an answer, a recording plays asking you to hold, then the call%26#39;s routed to a representative. I used to wonder if it was something like that that wasn%26#39;t working right. . .

Does anyone have any feedback for Vonage online phone service?

reception; service; problems?

Answers:

I haven%26#39;t experienced any issues with calling behavior that have been intolerable. Dropped packets when using my broadband connection for VPN connection to work, resulting in choppy or "max headroom-like" voice effect. Also have had really bad reliability for messaging service with delayed messages, and no root cause explanation from Vonage.

It%26#39;s a cheap voice service with no service commitment. I%26#39;ve been willing to put up with the snags for the low price. I%26#39;d never use it for a business though. Plenty of good providers out there that will agree to a service level commitment, for a price. WHAT IS THE WORST PHONE COMPANY EVER, THERE WERE SO MANY PROBLEMS I CAN WTITE A BOOK; I CANCELLELED THEIR SERVICE VERY BAD RECEPTION AND THEY CHARGED ME AN CANCELLATION FEE AND AFTER THAT THEY STILL CHARGED MY CREDIT CARD, AND I HAD TO DO A CREDIT CARD DISPUTE AND THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING I THREW A 100$ OUT THE WINDOW I DIDNT EVEN USE THEIR SERVICE I SENT THE DEVICE BACK AND THEY CHARGED FOR NOTHING IT DIDNT MAKE ANY SENCE,IF YOU HAVE VERIZON TYOU CANT KEEP YOUR PHONE #, STICK WITH VERIZON, VONAGE IS THE WORST NEVER NEVER SIGN UP.

Does anyone have the phone numbers to stop companies cold calling please?

I blocked them before but the time must have expired as they have been driving me mad lately

Answers:

you could use the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) this should stop you getting unwanted telephone calls after 28 days. If your on cable phone them and they will give you the number - should imagine it will be the same for other companies.

I gave my number on a survery on the net and I am being bomb blasted at the moment - so I am going to do the same and ring - but I def. will not give my number out to anyone in future. Try the Telephone Preference Service: -

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/...

I have used it, and it does cut down significantly on the amount of marketing calls received.

Even if the odd sales company does get through, all you have to do is inform them you are registered with TPS and they terminate the call almost immediately - and remove your number from their database. Here is the number for the national Do Not Call Registry:

1-888-382-1222

You can also register on-line:

https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx... BT have given me auto TPS for this and it is great.Sorry i dont have a number but am sure BT has. You can go online to www.Donotcall.gov being as that i do not know the toll free number for use in the UK. Supposed to block ppls. for 5 yrs. or so. And, if the same company calls u again, they could be fined.

Good luck hope it helps. Go with the TPS. I did it a few years ago, it took a couple of months to work, but now I only get a very few cold calls. Perhaps one a week.

Never give out your telephone number when online ordering gear. Any proper company who insists on having your telephone number will give you the option not to be contacted for promotional purposes by phone

And finally and this is the hardest bit. When you do get that annoying phone call explain to the caller that you belong to the TPS and ask them to remove you from their list of prospective customers. Some will, others just hang up and get on to their next call.

Good luck

Does anyone know how good this VOIP phone service is?

Answers:

The first thing you gotta do is check out some of the providers...DSL reports is one one of the best unbiased websites...

http://www.dslreports.com/overview?v=r..

I don%26#39;t pay to much attentions what ppl say on the voip forums, they are writing usually bad reviews about the providers they just left.not to many pp go online to write good reviews about there VoIP provider.

http://www.voipreview.org/review.all.asp...

skype is not a true VoIP provider but rather an SIP service...I also got skype and mindspring.com.all for free...

It is difficult to get an unbiased consumer review. Most often if you see a bad one, it was likely not even the VOIP service%26#39;s problem. More than likely a problem with the broadband provider.

All that being said, the best pairing is with a reputable VOIP service and DSL or some other dedicated broadband. Cable is theoretically OK, but the bandwith fluctuates throughout the day depending on usage in your local area. I found our Cable internet wasn%26#39;t sufficent to use 2 voip lines and have 2 computers streaming data or uploading/downloading data. We had a lot of dropped calls.

Switched to DSL, no problems since. We use Vonage.

I am concerned about the financial stability of Vonage. I use one business line and one residential line thru them. I don%26#39;t really care if my home phone number gets canned if Vonage tanks, but if I loose my business phone number I will be SOL.

Does anyone know how much it costs using at&t to call the UK from Texas using a land-line teleph

from Texas with a land-line using at%26t long distance. Please

answer.

Answers:

ATT rates are just terrible.they change there rates every day.just use www.voice.yahoo.com! All major phone companies have various long distance plans, including international calling plans, which will reduce your price to call the UK. If you don%26#39;t have an international calling plan on your account, it cost a whole alot more. Also just because you have AT%26T for you local service, doesn%26#39;t mean you have to have them for your long distance. Shop around for long distance carriers, to find the best rates. I use Lingo.com, it%26#39;s only 25 a month and it%26#39;s unlimited. All you need is high speed Internet service. ;-D It depends on the service you use. Call up different phone companies and ask them for their rates. Just pick the best one. Good luck!

Does anyone know how to block your house number?

and are you charged for using it or 3 way calling?

Answers:

*67 and then the number Dial *67 than the number you are calling. I think you may be charged a small fee. *67 before you dial should do it. There is no fee for this here (St. Louis).

Also, many phone companies offer the option of permanently blocking caller ID on your line. So check with your telco. I know Verizon Wireless offers this. There usually is a fee for this, though. block it with *67 usually it costs a small fee and 3 way calling can be part of your package. I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised if there wasn%26#39;t a fee everytime you sneezed with some of these outfits. Call their customer service and if you can understand the foreign accents, perhaps you%26#39;ll find out.

Some of these people speak so badly, that I started asking them to repeat what they said, they get mad, but I figure if I have to ask them three times what they said, it%26#39;s not my fault and I%26#39;m paying for their lousy service.

Have managed to trace a telephone nuisance caller I am wondering about legal actionI?

with assistance merely having calls stopped seems too easy.am considering taking police action what do you think

Answers:

call your telephone company and explain what is happening. tell them you want to prosecute and ask for a "trap" to be placed onto your line.

but before you do that...here is another tactic that the police had me use and it worked.

on your answering machine or voice mail, change your recording to:

Thank you for calling, please be advised that this line currently has a san diego sheriff (example) telephone line trap placed on it. your call is being monited by the local authories. if you have no business with this line, please disconnect immediately.

it worked for me...my calls stopped.

but any ways..if you do put a trap on your phone -your phone company will lead you through the next steps.

thanks and good luck :) You%26#39;re not going to accomplish anything without taking preventative measures first.

Call your local telephone company and have the individual%26#39;s number blocked. If the issue persists, seek legal advice. The best thing to do is to report the number to the Phone Company. They will take action against the perp. If they get too bad, you might try contacting the attorney general of your state, or an attorney. Many states such calls are illegal and the phone company, state, or you can take action. The police will be of limited help. Do it and good luck with it all!

Have you ever received a call from Tedd E. Bear (727) 835-0222 ?

That is funny. Have you tried to call him back? What was the response? (727) 835-0222 is Unpublished

Type: Land Line

Provider: Nuvox Communications

Location: New Port Richey, FL I would enter the number in: www.whocalled.us and see who else reported it. There are some very sick people out there who think a telephone is a toy. Let%26#39;s prove them wrong and put them behind bars. there is a possibility that he only tried to call your number just to find out who you are and hang up. in this way, you must not had called him back. a person who dialed your number, if he has something important to ask, he must leave a message or talk to you, but this kind of person is just playing around. and maybe he is only trying to make you confused. since most users here doesn%26#39;t have a phone (landline or cellphone) to block unwanted calls, they are using this chance to trick or annoy them.

*the reason why his number cannot be reached or your call is not accepted, it%26#39;s because your number is being blocked by him or is not listed in his phone list and that will automatically block incoming calls which he doesn%26#39;t want.

Have you noticed your phone bill?

Nearly all big corporations are now making a profit on you ringing, for example Vodaphone is 17p a minute. The local police are also an 0845 17p a minute job. May I suggest that you vociferously complain, refuse to ring rip of numbers, do not ring the hospital phone at 50p a minute, ring the ward, tell them you are overseas, this activity should be stopped, if you discover that you are dealing with this sort of agency then find out their real number, ring their emergency number, or change supplier. This is underhand theft.

I understand what your saying but we have a choice and we choose to use our phones so in effect, we are saying we are willing to pay that amount to make a call.

If you wanted to sell your car worth 4 grand but some guy offers you eight grand your going to take it and the phone companies are no different.

Hellppp phone questionssss?

if i call someone from my cell phone and block my number, can they trace that number?

Answers:

That question should actually be asked in the cell phone section, but the answer is NO, unlike home phones where you can do CALL TRACE, that feature is not yet offered for cell phones. Nope period. of course not. Actually the police can. We%26#39;ve done it before. in the days of old - mechanical switching central offices - tracing calls was laborious and time consuming, and gone when disconnected.

today with everything electronic, it is instantaneous (almost) and it leaves a permanent trail. Blocking just prevents the called party from seeing who you are. The trail is still there for the authorities to find. so if you want to aggrivate or threaten someone, get over it, now or in jail.
