your question is unclear... GPS stands for Global Position Satellite... perhaps you are referring to GSM, which is a type of cellular service which is used throughout most of the world...
tmobile, virgin, and cingular (now at and t) are the most well known GSM providers in the US.
when looking for cellular service it is important to know what you need. many offer free roaming, but if you do not leave your home calling area much, you can get a plan where you pay for roaming, and get more included minutes...
most carriers pricing plans are pretty much the same from carrier to carrier, but it depends on the features that you need really...
some carriers nights start at 9, some at 7 (some start at 9 normally but for an extra fee will start at 7)
some cell providers do offer GSM, sprint/nextel, and verizon come to mind.. you can find directions from your phone, and sometimes even find friends who are nearby to where you are..
mobile to mobile may be important, so find out what carrier the people that you plan on calling the most use, because calls between the same cellular carrier are normally included with call plans.. (but not always)
if you plan on using the data side of your phone, make sure you get a package that will give you enough data transfer (while some carriers frown on using the phone as a tethered modem, if you plan on using your phone as a tethered modem, you should opt for an unlimited data plan, and make sure the phone you choose can be used as a tethered modem..
