I blocked them before but the time must have expired as they have been driving me mad lately

you could use the TPS (Telephone Preference Service) this should stop you getting unwanted telephone calls after 28 days. If your on cable phone them and they will give you the number - should imagine it will be the same for other companies.
I gave my number on a survery on the net and I am being bomb blasted at the moment - so I am going to do the same and ring - but I def. will not give my number out to anyone in future. Try the Telephone Preference Service: -

I have used it, and it does cut down significantly on the amount of marketing calls received.
Even if the odd sales company does get through, all you have to do is inform them you are registered with TPS and they terminate the call almost immediately - and remove your number from their database. Here is the number for the national Do Not Call Registry:
1-888-382-1222
You can also register on-line:
https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx... BT have given me auto TPS for this and it is great.Sorry i dont have a number but am sure BT has. You can go online to www.Donotcall.gov being as that i do not know the toll free number for use in the UK. Supposed to block ppls. for 5 yrs. or so. And, if the same company calls u again, they could be fined.
Good luck hope it helps. Go with the TPS. I did it a few years ago, it took a couple of months to work, but now I only get a very few cold calls. Perhaps one a week.
Never give out your telephone number when online ordering gear. Any proper company who insists on having your telephone number will give you the option not to be contacted for promotional purposes by phone
And finally and this is the hardest bit. When you do get that annoying phone call explain to the caller that you belong to the TPS and ask them to remove you from their list of prospective customers. Some will, others just hang up and get on to their next call.
Good luck
