I was wondering if anyone knew of an online reverse telphone directory for the UK. The type where you may have a phone number and it then gives you the name of the phone owner. It seem that the USA is awash with the things but the UK is a different matter
Answer:
It%26#39;s not actually legal to release %26#39;reverse directory%26#39; in the UK. the Data Protection Act will apply because all telephone subscribers details are held on computer databases solely for the declared purposes.
In the case of a subscriber%26#39;s address (especially if they%26#39;re ex-directory) that will only be for sending his bill and for fault finding.
Therefore, anything which enables tracing of an address from a phone number will break at least this law and severall others. I don%26#39;t, but what I have done and it sometimes works is to google the number in inverted commas I know the Data Protection Act may be a problem, but
1) You could try ringing the number and asking if some fictitious person is there, and then say %26#39;So to whom am I speaking?%26#39;
2) If its on your phone bill, ring your phone provider and say you dont recognise the number..I did that one, It was business number Iceland shop but they gave it to me anyway, without too many questions
If its a nuicence call to your landline or mobile get the police involved..that%26#39;l get you who they are...
And if its you that intends to make the nusience phonecall then sod off you dont deserve to know..if the person wanted you to have their number they would have given it to you with their full name and addy I found that the "Reverse Search" sites on TheFreePhoneSite.com are the best.
