Is your modem internal or external? External modems are generally more reliable (assuming you use a Serial cable connection rather then USB). What I would do first is go to Control Panel--%26gt;Phone and Modem Options--%26gt;Modems Tab--%26gt;Properties Button and find Diagnostics and click the Query Modem button and see if you get a response. If no response, you may have a driver issue or a problem with the modem. At this day in age, you should be considering DSL or cable internet as Dial-up is antiquated these days.
