Is the a landline cordless phone that I could get that will work within a half mile radius?

I have a salvage yard thats about 3 acres. I need a cordless phone that I could use in the office and be able to walk into the yard on it too. Whats the best cordless phone for me?

Answer:

yes, use the uniden base-phone with an blue-tooth extension...you can clip it on your belt!! I don%26#39;t remember exactly what they were called but we used to have something like those old mobile phones with the large antennas (3%26#39;%26#39;) which had a base that was kept in the house, good for about 2 kilometers, that was about ten years ago. I think they were sattelite phones or something. Todays phones start to lose their connection after about 60feet... Have you considered walkie talkies for communicating with people in your office while your out in the field? Why not just use your mobile phone? I%26#39;ve been impressed with the range on my Panasonic 5.8 GHz phone. My base station is at one end of my 2500 sq ft house, and voice quality is perfect down my driveway at the other end of the house, through walls, upstairs through the ceiling/floor, etc. I have never once lost the signal on this phone, and I walk around with it quite a bit. Admittedly I haven%26#39;t tried 1/2 mile of range, but with my setup, I don%26#39;t think I can. I%26#39;ve certainly gone 1/10 mile with big obstructions.

If you can place the base station in a high window where it can see your entire yard unobstructed, you might have a shot at 1/2 mile. look into the DECT phones.. they operate at 1.9 ghz, so they offer better range then 2.4 ghz and 5.8 ghz phones...

I would recommend placing the cordless base unit as close to the center of the property, and as high as possible, to provide you with the best range...
