My phone just rings once and gets lost?

I use Bell Canada. When my phone is called it just rings once and then gets lost. The calling party just hears noise after the first ring. If I%26#39;m quick enough I can catch the call; if not, I hear nothing. I have no problem calling out though. I have broad band internet connection, alarm system and cordless phones. I%26#39;ve disconnected everything and left just one phone, but it didn%26#39;t change anything.

Bell Canada would charge me a minimum of $75 to check what the problem is. So I prefer my fellow Canadians to shed some lights. Thanks.

Answer:

ringing one time then getting cut off... the term that phone techs call this is a "pre-trip" and 99% of the time it is a defective phone...

especiallay after a lightning storm, or surge in power in your phone line...

disconnect each phone, fax, modem, and satellite box one at a time, and try to call into your number...

fax machines, modems, and satellite boxes (that require being plugged into a phone line) are more sensitive to the surge in the line then a phone, so check with those first.. It sounds like an outside problem your probably on whats called a dpg line it requires a digital card in the network from my experience it sounds like the card is ring tripping which means that there is something wrong with it on the outside when you call the phone company ask if your on copper or dpg or pgi . if its inside then you can make the $75.00 in payments

good luck
