I used to have a regular phone service %26 am paranoid about my lines being tapped, was wondering if i switch to something like Tim Warner Cable %26 get digital service if they can still be tapped. It%26#39;d be going thru a modem %26 not the phone line, I don%26#39;t know if this would change anything or not. don%26#39;t tell me not to be paranoid (I%26#39;ve had a lot of ppl tell me that already), just answer the question about how phone lines are tapped. thanks.
Answer:
I%26#39;ll just bypass the ink and go for the bold type. Looks more like a question. Obsolete. Technology now in place makes it a reality you can pick up a phone conversation while it%26#39;s in the air before it reaches a unit and eavesdrop or send a paralell signal for another eavesdropper to hear. Parabolic antennas are old and also pick up a lot but are considered illegal. Conventional means are long outstripped. Criminals today, official or otherwise regularly use these means. it becomes much more difficult for illeagal wire taps, unless you connect to your inside wiring, and fail to disconnect the wiring at your nid, in which case you are back feeding your VoIP signal out to the PSTN...
for a court approved wire tap, any company that provides phone service, must have in place a way for the wiretap order to be carried out...
in this digital age, most of the time it can be something as simple as installing or activating some software at the phone companies office, to record, or even send your conversation to law enforcement off-site, to record and monitor your conversations..
if its the fedz you fear. prepaid cell phones, and change them every so often... buy them with cash so they are not as traceable as with a credit or debit card...
also, get rid of 900 mhz phones... use either DECT 1.9 ghz phones or 5.8 ghz phones only if you must use a cordless...
