Okay so my boss and I share a phone line with 2 different ext%26#39;s and i want to know if the caller i.d would work if it%26#39;s not a direct line?
Answer:
no There has to be a direct line associated with your phone to have caller id, if you have a PBX ask the local tech if the system can have caller id on the trunks for you extension? It depends how things are set up. Yes you can have CLID without a direct line if your telephone system has the software and you have purchased the feature from the telephone company supplying your outside lines. Depends on your PBX. You have one line, that is then split into two lines. You may have caller id on just the one line. Because you and he share.
Example three wires coming in, only two are needed to operate the phone the phones share a common wire and have a seperate wire that is not shared. Hope this explains
