Florida residents? Our phones went out during lightning strorm and are not back?

We are new to living here and about 2-3 hours ago had a big lightening storm, during which time our electrics and phone cut out. Everything is is back but the phones are not - no dial tone. What would be a reasonable amount of time to wait before reporting this and is it common?

Answers:

I would try another phone, unless you got the old Bell 500 with the rotary dial, which was indestructible. It happened to me twice that the phone got cooked by a nearby lightning strike.

I know of others as well, that this happens quite often. yes, its always the same old thing, at 3 o%26#39;clock.the thunderstorm. I would have reported it immediately because the structural damage (to lines and poles) might be severe and take time to rectify
