oops.. are you sure the phone is connected on the cable wire or the very "thing" which is on the wall? hrm.. your phone might be broken.. why dont you get another landline phone and try to know if its the thing on the wall broken or the landline itself..
if you dont know what to do, ask someone else to fix it for you. so that things wont go worse :) Is it on vibrate you can change it by settings and then click on sounds Have you gone Broadband recently, this happened to me, when I switched to broadband i.e. the phone in the front room would ring, but the phone in the bedroom would not, even though I can still make calls from it, situation still unresolved. Maybe you accidentally put it on silent (turned off the ringer) Check if the ringer volume is high enough, check if the is a ringtone. If all fails, seek expert help from a technician or the phone company... Make sure the ringer is turned on and the volume is up.
Look at the phone line and make sure it is intact. Before fretting too much about it, report the problem to your phone company. It could simply be a line problem that can be corrected without them even coming to your house. That happened to me just yesterday! My phones would not ring. If someone called and I picked up, there would be static.no voices. And yet, there was a dial tone when I needed to call out. I reported it and the company had it going again shortly. I never saw their faces.they did it from their end of the lines. So..you never know until you try. (by the way, some people answering your question are confused as to what "land phone" means. I never saw a land phone that could be set on "vibrate." They are obviously thinking you mean a cellular..while land phone is the type that goes into a wall jack. Right?) what happens to the caller when they call you...
