its not easy to port VoiP number, providers hate doing it, and I don%26#39;t know why! Yes you can, as long as the new VOIP company handles that area code of course. Vonage is a bit expensive, is that why you%26#39;re changing? I%26#39;d go with VOIP.com, you can compare prices and features here:

I hope that helps! as long as the new company provides coverage for the number. I have 7 customers who left vonage for my service. You can check it out right here:

You can see what my service provide for you. I can say from using it myself, I will never go to another provider. I hope this helps in an ideal world this would be great... but no so in reality.. while cellular, and land line providers are required to port numbers, VoIP providers are not.. while many of them will be more than happy to port your number onto there service to get you as a customer, most will not port your line from there service, as there is no requirement for them to do so... so if you are leaving vonage say goodbye to your phone line...
just a word of advice... you see what just happened to sunrocket... they went out of business like many VoIP providers before... Vonage was one of the first major VoIP carriers, so unless you are going with the phone service provided by your cable company leaving vonage to save mabey $5 or so a month may not be worth it in the long run... You can, however like others have said its not the easiest to do. Also be careful who you choose as many bargain ones may close (like Sun Rocket), however I did previously have Vonage and switched. It did take them a while to get them to port the number, however I was able to.
The best provider I found that was reliable, yet cheaper than vonage was: http://V0lP.net
You%26#39;ll save about $5 bucks a month, which isn%26#39;t the cheapest provider out there, however my buddy used one of those "bargain" voip services and then ended swtiching to what I use after he realized they had almost no customer service and it wasn%26#39;t very reliable.
