I have a GE 2.4ghz digital cordless phone system with digiatl answering system. I had (stress had) two handsets. Now one is missing (think, remote controls), and the other is not functional. I bought another GE 2.4 GHZ phone that was nearly, but not exactly identical (it has the same shape, but is white, not black, and does not have caller ID like the originals), thinking that all I would have to do is park it on the base I already had, and it would work. It seems that is the wrong assumption. Does anyone know if it SHOULD work this way? How do I find a replacement cordless handset that will work with my system, or do I have to just chuck it and start new?
Answers:
no, but you can try and compare prices on these 2 websites!!

http://www.101phones.com/?arefx=5858498%26... IF the phones are compatible, then placing the handset on the main base should register or "pair" the handset to the base... BUT if it is a diffrent model number then it is unlikely that this will work, and you may need to replace the whole thing...
if this is an expandable handset cordless phone, then you may be able to purchase additional handsets specifically for this phone.. as you did not provide a model number, I can not tell you if your phone is expandable... write the model number for the base/phone that you have and bring it to staples/best buy/circuit city and see if it is expandable, and if they have the expansion handset for your phone...
diffrent models may not be compatible with eachother as they may operate on diffrent frequencies, and/or may even have been made in diffrent factories, or by diffrent equipment manufacturers... sometimes companies hire outside companies, or purchase a finished product from someone else and re brand it...
