there used to be a line in the apartment, and the socket is still there but BT want to charge me.
I only want to use Wireless/ Broadband !
What are my alternatives?
Answers:
Cable access
use a cell phone for everything else.
are you sure you don%26#39;t have debt with bt from a previous line? i wouldnt have thought so, no... i don%26#39;t think there is one - we had to pay to reactivate ours - about £75 two years ago, even though we are about 10 metres away from the telephone exchange.
you could see what other providers would charge. i would argue with bt... because if there used to a line in the appartment there should be no charge to reactivate it...
ggeeezzz my mother is having the same arguement with them she can even tell them the old bt phonenumber we used to have try tiscali or sky or ntl (virgin) BT didn%26#39;t charge me a penny to re activate my line, even though an engineer came to my house and spent time repairing it. I suggest you speak to a sales person who knows what they%26#39;re doing. I recently had the same thing, i had a existing line in but I was only charged £10 in the end, however I have my phone and broadband with them. Go back and argue about it, dont give up. Good luck. Could it be that BT have shareholders, just like all the other ex-nationalised businesses, they rip everybody off to pay the fat cats and shareholders? My fiance and I had the same problem but we discovered a little-known loophole that may help you, depending on your circumstances. He had a landline at an old address within the previous 12 months. Because of this, BT waived the connection fee at the new flat, so we got connected for nothing. If you had a BT landline in your name at a previous address within via last 12 months, there%26#39;ll be no charge for installation.. It should only cost a tenner ??? and it will take less than ten minutes to sort out. (they just contact exchange)
