its not dial up, can the internet work if the phone is not working its not dial up, i am with talk talk and paid my bill, what could be wrong can the internet work with out the phone the wires from the internet are all connected to the phone socket whats wrong.

power might be out just on the phone yes Yes Broadband will work without the phone line take help of internet ha ha.... Try your cable network. I%26#39;d Move!!!! have you tried checking the electric plug, that connects the main phone, it could have been knocked loose, or taken out and forgotten about, hope you dont think this is silly, but sometimes it is something simple like that, the voice side of your phone line requires 2 wires (a pair) to provide the dial tone... also, this pair can not have any metallic problems (short, ground, etc)
the DSL side of your line can work with a single wire.. therefore, if there is a metallic problem on your line, which affects the voice side of your line your DSL will still work in many cases...
bring a corded phone that you know works to the NID outside of your house, and plug the phone directly into here... if you get dial tone here, chances are that one of the phones is defective... if you get no dial tone here the problem is outside, you need to contact your local phone provider to repair the trouble...
