I have a two line phone on my desk, but only one phone line. This morning when I woke up, I noticed the "L2 in use" light was flashing, even though there is no L2 in our house. The phone is working fine, but this is very annoying.
There are three ports on the back: "L1 or L1+L2", "L2", and "Data". I have the phone line plugged into the first port. I also have a fax machine and directv receiver connected to the data port.
There is a "Line select" switch for the data port. When I switch the source to L2, the light shuts off for good, though my dtv receiver kinda needs that phone line. However, when I set the switch to L1, and just unplug the cord in the data port, the light stays on.
I also tried moving the phone and plugging it into a different jack. That did not fix the problem.
My satellite receiver did get a new upgrade downloaded this morning, but even when it was unplugged while I tried a different phone jack, the light stayed on.

My guess it that you may have a bad phone cord some where. The light "lights" when it sees a short on the phone pairs. Try a new cord between your phone and DVR, or look for aloose cord end.
