Answers:
the old wiring is not any standard phone wire colors.. most likely someone used whatever low voltage wiring that they had around when they put in your old jack...
old phone wires were red, green, yellow, black
new phone wiring is blue, blue/white, orange orange/white
if you are able to ring out, but not in, either you have connected the jack properly, and there is a problem with the ringer, or you connected one wire properly (most likely the tip side wire) and there is a ground on the other wire you connected.. if you email me a photo of what you have perhaps i can provide further assistance.. I think you best bet is to talk to a phone tech at the phone company and have them test you incoming lines for compatability. It may be just an outside problem. First you need to find out what color wires are connected in the Network Interface Device (the box on the outside of your home... usually located near your power meter). Assuming your inside wiring hasn%26#39;t been spliced with wiring containing other colors. What ever combo of colors are connected in the box outside, use those same colors and connect them to the blue and white with blue ring on the rear of the jack. At that point if you get dial tone and still cannot receive calls, then call your service provider, there may be other trouble on your line. if you can get a dial tone and call out..but not hear the phone ring on incoming calls...it might be the wrong telephone number.. call your cellphone from it and see the i.d.. there is a number that we technicians call but its....secret
